I think the OP is assuming the fund would want him or her to keep working and gain deal experience until the start date, obviously not what he or she wants, and was trying to get a sense from random Internet types of what we thought would fly in the way of a break. I myself have no idea, but I DO see the danger of the OP following the above advice, getting the reply "until the start date, duh" and then having to stick to that.

 

What if you did a year of banking and lateraled to a better bank so basically doing 3 years of banking. Can you leave like 3rd year January or April for instance? Or what date do you recommend

 

Get your bonus and then take a couple months off if you can. Plenty of time to rest up before your new job 

 

I quit early and left a bonus behind but quit in April for a July start in PE. No one at the fund cared (no one knew unless I mentioned also) and if anything they were happy I was coming in rested and healthy. I also had good deal experience so I don’t think I really needed the final few months of banking

Would highly recommend, I came in feeling so much better than everyone who took two weeks off in between
