How good is a Quant Trading Internship for IB recruiting?
Hey guys, I'm a junior at a Canadian school. Accepted a 12mo Quant Trading internship at (probably) the best Canadian investment bank. I will be doing a gap year after my junior year to do this, and I will have Summer 2022 to do another internship.
I was wondering if this Quant Trading internship will help with IB recruiting? Would an internship like this be looked upon favourably? Is it normal to make a quant -> IB transition? Ideally it would be a M&A role at a BB in the US, but I will also definitely network with the IB at the firm to be considered for a role here as well.
Let me know what you guys think!
I came from S&T in a similarly quanty role.
It does not help you - and might hurt you a little bit in terms of how your interviewer perceives you. You need to have a really great story about why you are even making that transition.
