How hard is it to get into a Barclays coverage group if you didn't intern there?
Title says it all. I know the program is generalist, so wondering how likely it is that new FT hires will be in some product group?

Considering those will have 1 year or more of networking and summer of interning in a coverage group, it will be very hard. DCM or ECM isn't a bad life though. If this is your first rodeo of going through a placement process, it's gonna wake you up when you realize how much of a shit show it is. Try hopping on the phone with the top groups that have the entire analyst class bombarding their inboxes for coffee chats, let me know how it goes.
Would you take a low mm bank in a coverage/m&a group or Barclays ECM/DCM?
not sure what "low MM bank" means, but Barclays ECM/DCM (particularly DCM) is still pretty strong. The BB brand will trump any no-name bank, unless you're referring to the likes of Jeff/WB asa a "low MM bank".
was referring to a balance sheet bank like mizuho/nomura/bnp
There is an obvious choice between M&A and DCM/ECM - M&A.
agreed, except at Barclays/GS where coverage does M&A
lol the group I interned in doesn't even return emails. good luck!
