How many grads actually land a job in IB?
For a sense of perspective, how many grads actually get a job in IB?
In the UK there's something like 800k graduates. How many actually land IB jobs? 1000, 1500? More, less? Interested in hearing what people think.
Not limited to just the UK; US also feel free to share your thoughts.
When I worked for a British bank, their grad intake for NON-IB FLDP was 115 people for that specific year. No clue if there were non-FLDP included in that group or not.
Weirdly, I can't remember the number for their IB BU.
That's all I know.
Further, there are also people all over Europe competeting for the IB jobs in London.
9 BBs, average grad intake about 80 (some more - e.g. Barclays, others less, e.g. UBS). That's 720. Rothschild and Lazard will take about 40 each, and a handful of EBs will take in the range of 10-20 (Evercore, PWP, PJT, Moelis, Greenhill). That brings us to about 900.
This is probably what you'd regard as Tier 1. Of course, there are lots of banks (Mizuho, SocGen, Wells...) - almost all of which will have some sort of M&A, as well as Transaction Advisory at Big 4.
900 spots for all British and European grads is fierce competition. Heck, there are probably close to that number studying Economics at LSE+Oxbridge.
Roughly 50 per BB (IB only, no s&t, ER et) which there are now 8 after CS, and another roughly 35 each through Rothschild and Lazard. EBs and decent MMs each probably have anywhere between 10 and 20 each and there's maybe 25 of them. That comes to roughly 850 a year
