How many SA spots in London's top 20 banks?

Hello everyone,

I'm an incoming Masters student at a top target in the UK, exploring my chances of securing a Summer Analyst position next year within the Investment Banking division of the top 20 banks in London.

From my understanding, the biggest banks (GS, MS, JPM, BofA, Citi) take around 60-70 interns while EBs take more like 15-20 interns.

Based on these figures, I estimate that the average Summer Analyst class size could be around 30 interns, summing up to a total of approximately 600 positions across these institutions. That would probably mean only 200-300 spots for straight white males like me.

Am I right in this calculation?

You forgot that around 15-20% of the SA spots are filled by spring interns on average. I think Lazard is 100% but correct me if I am wrong.

Gender is a criteria among others. BBs also look at the uni, language, or skin colour. They want to have a balanced mix.

A lot of these are ballpark so may be wrong but most should be in the correct ballpark to give a better idea. In total probably 1000 reputable BB/EB/MM IBD SA spots in London.

It increased a lot this year but probably average 3-4k per bank. Pointless thinking about your statistical odds. If you have a good background you'll do better than you think as a lot of applicants are poor quality/not serious. Also haven't included SA numbers for other FO divisions

Yeah true although it changes a lot every year. I heard Jefferies was 30 in the summer just gone although could be wrong.

Know for a fact it was 28 last year.

Actually tbf its 30 if you include park hill

was just wondering what the equivalent of this would be for consulting? (average intern numbers per firm)
