How much do MM MDs make?
Just curious as to how much MM MDs make. I know they can compete with BB comp at junior levels, but given the nature of deal economics (smaller fees per transaction), how much does does pay diverge from BB where an MD could score a billion dollar transaction.
Some top MMs like Baird and WB have more money as a percent of revenue stay in house…well almost all since they’re private and employee owned. I’m sure that translates to a higher retained percent for MDs but not sure what over all comp would be
At top MMs? I mean true MMs like Blair which are privately held, then they can make more than BB MDs because of profit share. Most MDs make around $1.5mm at BBs, but can be double that if they're on a guarantee package (ie, they were poached).
MM head of IB a few years ago said they target to pay new MD's $1m and they expect them to make about $2m in fees annually - this is a LMM bank
Just $2M of fees annually? Isn't that just one deal a year? Sounds low but what do I know, I'm just an analyst
Really depends on how good of a year. Not only depends on closed deals, but closed deals that you sourced, as you can have multiple MD's on a deal. Down year is about $1M, a good year can be $2-3, and a record year could be $4+
Head of Blair HC last year made like $30m last year iirc. A buddy of mine told me that at least.
More than BB
Was told that MMs especially WB compensates its MDs really well. I think on average, their compensation is probably higher than an average MD at a BB, but this excludes outliers like rain-makers. If you are a top 1-10% in BB/EB, you can probably rake in substantially a lot more given the $ value of deals you'd bring in/work on.
The only difference is your deals wouldn't necessarily be a feature on WSJ.
