How old is Deutsche in the US?
I know how long DB has been around overall but had trouble finding how long the NY office has been there, mainly the IBD part. Anyone have a rough idea?

They bought Bankers Trust/Alex Brown in 1998 or so. Not sure if they had NY offices before then.

The reason they asked you that is because DB has traditionally been (and still is) a commercial bank. As was mentioned above, they broke into IBD through BT Alex Brown, and I guess tried to utilize those relationships as well as lending relationships to foster a new business unit.
Part of the firm's "story" is that they're a relatively recent entrant into BB IBD in the US.
