How safe is LevFin in a downturn?
If layoffs start happening in IB, how safe is LevFin compared to the other coverage/product groups (at the analyst) level? Apart from restructuring, what groups are least likely to be affected (apart from restructuring)? I wake up with anxiety everyday at the thought of massive layoffs happening as I literally have nothing else to fall back on. Goal is to make it to MD and this is my first professional job out of school so I'm kinda panicking every day.
Lev fin gets busy in a downturn. RX is busy with bankrupt companies, but lev fin is very busy with nearly bankrupt companies.
Layoffs are really not frequent in IB though, I wouldn't choose lev fin just because you think it's recession-proof. 2008 was a very unusual situation for banks
