Friend had an interview at an EB where he got a packet of financials and was asked to build an accretion/dilution analysis
How common would this be at a BB superday?
never
Interviewed at multiple EBs for first/second rounds and superdays. In the superdays, some interviews are really technical (M&A case study, paper LBOs, etc.), but most of the interviews are fit based especially the ones with VP/MD.
That's what I've heard as well, the technical portions are minimal but very intensive.
There's M&A case study and paper LBOs for SA and FT positions? I thought that would be more for lateral hires.
yup - paper LBO is usually for first/second rounds, M&A case study for Super days from my experience (2 EBs)
Is this for SA? Any other general tips for EB processes?
I was never asked anything that technical in my EB interviews but I only interviewed at one EB
Some are very fit based
Seconded. My EB superday was entirely fit-based and only one or two conceptual technicals.
For the SA EB rounds I have been through, VERY technical at all stages of the process. Know technicals at a deeper level and be able to confidently apply. GL
I'm talking paper LBO's and 30 min merger models...
If you are a non-target and/or interviewing for RX at EB be prepared for a very technical experience: paper lbos, capital structure, bond questions, 400 BIWS guide, etc.
Seems about right, do non targets have to be perfect?
basically ya (maybe not 100% if you have a VP/MD or recruiting pulling for you). either way, you need to be spot on your technicals (or at least in the right direction with your answers). Plus you will be pressed on behaviorals to see your fit in their culture since most of them are target breed and very small/tight groups. (I am non-target did a few rx superdays)
.
can't really speak on the specific advantage...honestly really depends on the EB and your relationship since EBs are not consistent like BB. behaviorally it could be anything: what-if work situations, culture, leadership, etc.. I think as I went through the process for the different banks you could tell how their values slightly influenced their questions. to clarify, some EBs ask like only 5% behavioral while others prioritize it heavily alongside its technicals for fit.
