How to best prepare for summer IB internship?
I have heard a lot of conflicting answers on this. Some say review modeling, some say you do very little actual modeling. I have been told to review excel, but also that it is 80/20 PowerPoint. My question would be how to best allocate my time. Should I stick to the fundamentals such as excel shortcuts / PowerPoint speed and formatting, or would it actually be worth it to spend time going into valuation modeling. Given the increased time many of us have before summer internships start I am sure the average SA will spend more time preparing than previous years.
Bump
PPT and learn how to use Factset if possible (to refresh formulas and dont fuck it up).
If you are good at that, and you make little mistakes you will have an easy offer
Could you say some of the best ways to prepare for PPT? I often see people saying that but unsure the best way to go about it without just memorizing shortcuts or paying for an expensive course? Thanks
Learn how to format, to create waterfall charts in excel, how to present things beautiful, how to align 10 logos in small boxes and make them look good.
Also learn how to present ideas, there are books that would help you with the story telling that can also work.

also very interested
Depends entirely on the group you're going into. I had the same question when I was going to be an intern and my contact in my group said to relax as the group would teach things their way. This is coming from a group that does ~80% of modeling in-house and does not outsource any powerpoint work. My rec? Read the news and try to understand trends in whatever industry you're covering--this will improve your ability to add commentary on projects, which could arguably be your biggest value-add as an intern.
Reach out to your main contact in your group and see what they say. They probably understand the internship program looks very different than it usually does and they may have additional ways for you to prepare. Beyond that, there are plenty of threads on best practices for converting an offer.
Until then, relax, get outside, get some sleep and good luck.
From talking to people - seems like it largely depends on group. Different groups might give their intern different kinds of work (depends on their expectation, time,...). So far just make sure your excel, ppt, and industry knowledge are solid - or at least that’s what I’m focusing on.
