How to follow up with MD

I cold emailed an MD at a major consulting company (BCG, Deloitte, McKinsey). I am looking to study abroad and want to intern while abroad. He used to be MD of the firms office abroad, but now he is back in the states. Anyway, our convo went pretty decent. I asked about any opportunities he knows of and he said he isnt in position to hire at that office anymore, but he said to send cv and write a cover letter to him and he would forward it on.

The study abroad program i am appplying for is supposed to help place me in an internship there. How should I follow up with this MD? SHould i hurry up and get him the cv and letter or should I wait till i get admitted to the study abroad program and use their help + his?

Let me know, anything would help.

I would need to hear more about your study abroad program to give you a useful answer but I would recommend pursuing both leads separately and with the same vigor. There's no telling where your abroad program might place you so why pump the brakes on your consulting lead.

If anything, ask if he can put you in touch with any colleagues in your target country and go from there.
