How to list mentoring experience on resume?

So I was able to connect with a MD at a boutique investment bank by networking at a PWM internship I had. He took me under his wing for the summer, and a few times a week he took the time to run me through the technicals for a few of the live/prior deals he was working on/once had. During those mentoring sessions I gained a solid understanding of the financial modeling and valuation work the bankers were doing. Albeit it was not a "real" summer analyst position, I was hoping to still list the experience on my resume. I'm not sure how I can go about listing this and would really appreciate any insight.

Can You Include a Mentor on Resume?

While you can certainly include the PWM internship on your resume, most WSO members agree that there are other ways to leverage your experience with your mentor.

From Certified Hedge Fund Professional @tiger2012" :

Talk about it in your interviews. People always like hearing about off resume life experience "hustle". If he's the man he should be helping you get some leads and then he'll be the one talking you up, not you talking up the experience.

From Certified Investment Banking Professional @RonaldBacon" :

  • Try to get a recommendation letter if he's willing to write one.
  • Use him as a resource to network with other bankers as well. His word will go a long way.
