how to manage your associate?
my associate barely responds to emails. always comes to check my work right before the deadline snd comes up with crazy shit which ends up with me doing the work all over again or spending the weekend over useless shit. everyone else is so busy to help and I need guidance. My associate is very meticulous and change their mind a thousand times yet they are not proactive to help. i try to get exactly what they need before I start but it doesn’t always work
You need to approach your associate and speak with him in person and give him the feedback so that he can adjust accordingly. If the first time you tell him your issues and you don't notice a difference in how he is managing you, then it's your fault because you didn't communicate the feedback to them properly. If after the second time you speak with them and they still don't adjust then it's both your faults since he didn't adjust to your feedback and it's possible you despite you trying to be clearer you weren't clear enough.
Also you should put things into perspective and must understand that your associate is having to deal with the VP and MD's wrath at him since he's expected to lead the analysts and make sure everything is squared away so that the VPs and MDs can focus all of their attention on the clients and not have to worry about trivial technicalities like a deck or model. The reason that he could be flip flopping around so much in his ideas and work for you to do is because the VP and MD don't even know what they want and HE has to create the decks and models for the VP's and MD's that didn't communicate properly to him what they want. I've had to deal with MD's that didn't know what they wanted and revisions were a nightmare for them, so much so that I almost yelled at them to make up their god dam mind and move along because perfection does not exist.
It is very hard to give a good answer to this without any context. In my situation, I would find a good way to bring it up with the person directly - if that was not possible, do bring it up to the staffer or whoever handles analyst feedback / reviews. Some analysts think this is snitching or ratting - but that is nonsense in my opinion.
