How to source deals as an MD in Corporate Banking

I do not come from a top target, neither did I go to a private school, I genuinely grew up poor with zero connections and currently at my current firm I am well liked and constantly get good feedback plus I have been selected for an early promote. I do not see myself slowing down and know I am personable and technically very good at my job.

The thing is I have been worrying more and more about my future career when I have to start bringing in revenue due to my background and hope I do not sound rude but I don't want to hear I'm too early in my career to start thinking about it. It is still something I am very curious about and do not want to wait 10ish years to start working on it and learning.

I understand a lot of our clients in IBD and Corporate Banking are legacy clients and have been with us for years but I have been told by an MD there is still a push to find new clients.

I understand that you get leads from your banks network and try and push for it but what if there is some prejudice about your or your background does that mean that potential clients can just blow you off and your career an an MD is over? Is there a way to mitigate this?

I am black and know a lot of people hate the fact that I work with them despite the quality of my work due to a lot of the stuff I see here and on other forums, I see there isn't any changing that, its just how the world is.

I guess I am trying to ask is there a way to be a rockstar MD who did not have childhood connections with clients particularly if you are not a "desired" person in the Industry? I have never burnt a bridge and a lot of my prior co workers like me and regularly check up on me so I know that would be a good source to get deals as more of them exit and become more senior in their respective companies.

But I know that might not be enough and wonder what else I need to consider before then.
