How To Tell An Intern To Shut The Fuck Up?

I started working with this intern and he keeps pointing out mistakes in the work I do in a very rude way. Like I get it, they want to look like they know stuff but the overall attitude just turns me off. Act like they know it all. Even people who are more senior than me never addressed me this way. I decided not to go the extra mile for him like I did with previous interns. Would you flag this or just let it go? It seems like a small thing but having to work with someone so fucking annoying is not good

I would simply sit them down and have a small discussion about the behavior. Remember, they are just nervous/anxious about making an impression.

On the rudeness, if you do not correct them, they would think it is okay to continue doing so. I think again, a small chat would help a lot. They probably do not know any better.

...Now if it continues forward, then yeah, I would question their behavior at that point.

If the intern does improve, it'd be worthwhile to go the extra mile for them. Interns are temporary. so there is an end time (this isn't forever). I used to teach intern engineers where I worked at before, top students (MIT, Roch, UCSD, UC Berk, etc), in BS/MS in EE/CS programs and had displayed similar behaviors. The changes didn't happen overnight, so patience.

No pain no game.

Sorry man just got off the call with my gf from baml and haven't been able to concentrate so I've resorted to aderall and red bull to keep me focused. I hope you've been doing well and can't wait to ask you more questions so I can avoid being labelled a cuck.

At the end of the day it's your call to make. I definetly would try to coach and mentor him but if he's not receptive/won't change then fuckem. I will say that given the wfh environment it can definitely be easy to misconstrue certain things

To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.

> definetly

This is probably the most misspelled word for some reason lol

don’t do it. someone else will pick up and deal with it. interns can get really spiteful and do random covert shit like replace your regular lattes with decaf for weeks you won’t even realise what is off and then just as you are getting used to the decaf, out of nowhere hit you up with a quadruple shot latte.

Its hilarious that he deleted the thread name and description of the issue EVEN though he was already anonymous.

Edit: somehow its all fixed now and has the original title & description.

made new unrelated account - dont reply or message as i never use it.

Just gut it out for a couple weeks and make sure he/she doesn't get a return...

Point it out to him. You can be blunt and say it is off-putting and will result in him not receiving a return offer. If you don't bring it up to him, you're just continuing this awkward tension without making it better for either of you.

If he continues then voice your opinion during the intern review and he won't return. Simple as that.
