How was Jefferies SA 2020?
Incoming SA @ Jefferies and given the likelihood of it being virtual again, I was wondering how the experience was for SA 2020.
- Was it shortened, and were you placed on live deals?
- Was it a lot of seminars and workshops throughout the internship?
- Was there a project you had to work on for the whole internship?
- Were you paid for the whole 10 weeks even if the internship was shortened?
- Did Jefferies send laptops and/or monitors?
- Were dinners comped after a certain time?
Any other insight would also be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for sharing your experience!

bump - can some JEF people from the Rich Handler thread comment on this? Would be very helpful to incoming JEF interns.
ur not getting dinners sorry bud
Doesn't Jefferies pay for dinner even from WFH?
Assuming you are working at Jefferies, would you be able to give insight into the other parts?
Not for interns buddy!

Best to just linkedin message an incoming analyst..
Don’t wanna lose my anonymity if that makes sense.
who cares? those are totally fair questions to ask it’s just networking with your future coworkers

From an incoming analyst-
Yes it was shortened to 5 weeks, first 3 days consisted of training from 9am-3pm, with plenty of breaks in between. Pretty sure most interns were staffed on live deals as well as pitches. I will say the majority of the work was mainly administrative, and if you showed yourself capable they’d give you more responsibility.
Lots of seminars to attend, but optional for the most part. They mainly served to introduce you to groups within the firm with Q&A. I think I heard the M&A group gave out a modeling assignment for interns to work on in their spare time, not 100% sure though.
We were paid for the full 10 weeks, but HR asked us to spend that time doing community service in any way possible during the pandemic.
We weren’t sent monitors, and didn’t get dinners paid for.
Great, thank you for the insight, really appreciate it.
Do you know how it was for other cities such as Houston and San Fran where there was just one group? I am assuming they didn't have seminars for the groups so does that mean they just got more work?
