How would you react if someone you were interviewing ran a micro-SaaS on the side with $20K ARR?
Currently an ASO2 in MM IB. Started a niche SaaS business a few months ago that's ramped up nicely and is currently running at $20K ARR / 80% FCF margins. Obviously it's not super meaningful against my W2 but it was a highly rewarding process and I learned a lot and had fun.
I spend 10-15 hours a month on the business total, fully on weekends. Mix of technical work, business development, client management.
I've been thinking of lateraling to another firm and was wondering if this would be a net positive or negative on my resume / in interviews. On one hand I could see some folks being pretty impressed, but on the other hand it may look like I'm not fully dedicated to IB as a long-term career or that I’m wasting time on this side hustle. It's also all been cleared by compliance but I'm worried it may look sloppy / unprofessional.
Thanks in advance!
I’m impressed but banking is a conservative industry.
