IB AN3 Lateral Process Insights (Cantor M&A)
Hello folks,
I need your guidance and insights if you have been through a lateral process before.
- For a strange reason, I feel a bit off whereas I have been so many rounds of interviews (2 + 1 technical + 1 2-hour super day + 1 MD + Last round with 2 MDs) without any model test. I know they are building the M&A platform, but would you be curious to know whether the new analyst can do grunt works such as modeling, etc. while you are trying to build a "house"? I am not sure whether this is a "I need you to fill the spot now and lay you off later when I find a better candidate" or "Ok - we trust that you can do the work, come on in" situation.
- I have a lot to lose and I know there exists so many posts talking about their culture, Sage Kelly, whatever. I think the people I talk to do have good merits / personalities (some can be as boring as a rock, but nice) and they seem to be passionate in their work.
- I also have no idea their base and bonus structure at AN3 level, but it seems low to me from what the recruiter told me ($110k base) so if you could chime in here, I would appreciate it.
Any tips or insights are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
At EVR theres no expectation you know how to model if you lateral internally.
Are you interviewing for their tech team?
Are you?
I am not. Wish you all the best if you are in a process.
Following a similar process - would love to know how this went and any insights you can share
I was in this exact same position I was lateraling to another bank and they behave the exact same way. The result was that I was laid off. I would be very careful with banks that operate like this. They’re filling in a need right now out of desperation from the sounds of it. That’s not a good thing because they’re gonna expect a lot from you the moment you get there and if you’re not performing at 150% they will lay you off. The no modelling test is also an easy red flag - same thing happened to me.
I’m not saying not to take it , but the disorganization and lack of assessment and desperation to fill a need speaks volumes about their current team situation. I would tread lightly.
I am really sorry this happened to you. My result was that they did not even call me back for the last interview with an MD after he said we will circle back with you real quick: because I could not relocate to NY in one week given my family situation, they treated me that way. The external recruiter was quite rude and nasty from Atlas Search: he did not even have a courtesy to give me a call to let me know of the situation. People move around a lot and he just lost himself a client.
Thank you for chiming in and I wish you all the best!
