IB Best Groups

Hi all, I am still learning about the IB landscape. I am attending a target MBA program and I am wondering what the best groups are for the following banks: - GS - JPM - MS - BofA - Centerview - PJT - Evercore - Lazard - Credit Suisse (First Boston)

Better question is, what industry or product are you personally most interested in? You can be miserable if you're at the top group on the street but hate the work you do or the companies you cover.

With that being said, below is a list of popular groups for the banks you listed:

GS: TMT, FIG
JPM: HC, LevFin, FIG
- MS: M&A, P&U, Media
BofA: M&A, LevFin
Centerview: M&A
PJT: RSSG, M&A
Evercore: Media, HC
Lazard: RX, HC
Credit Suisse (First Boston): Avoid

You’re question is entirely too broad and comes off as misinformed. Not necessarily a bad thing but you should be focused on educating yourself on the space instead of asking about “top groups”.

The list you wrote has boutiques and BSB’s. It has firms with MM groups and firms without. It has firms with RX groups and firms without. Lev Fin capabilities, activism defense, private capital advisory, pure-play M&A, sector coverage, ECM, DCM, generalist programs, group-specific programs. These are all things that you should be knowledgable about.

Your path should be doing your due diligence on the above and then asking about which banks are strongest in the product/sector you are targeting.

Or you can ignore that and just go for GS TMT. Let us know how it goes.
