IB Intro Call - Energy Group Houston

As the title suggests, I have an introductory call scheduled with a Senior Vice President (SVP) of a top middle market (MM) / almost bulge bracket (BB) investment bank. Assuming it is not going to be much technical related since it's a SVP for the intro call.

Currently, I work in Finance/Tech Consulting at a Big 4 firm, where I started as an Analyst and was promoted to Consultant, successfully navigating performance evaluations and layoffs.

Although my work isn't directly related to Investment Banking, I have exposure to Finance and hold a degree in Finance from a non-target state school. Most of my consulting work is focused due to mergers and acquisitions, which often require organization-wide Finance transformations.

I've researched multiple posts on WSO, sub-reddits, and other sources. I wanted to post here to see if anyone has any advice for my upcoming call.

I'll be ready with my personal story, reasons for wanting to pursue Investment Banking, etc.

If anyone has had an introductory call and insight on the process following the call, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thank you for your help and time!

Sounds like this is with Jefferies (given top MM comment and you mentioning it is with an SVP):

I would be ready to answer the following questions:

- Why IB? (given you are in consulting)

- Why energy?

- Why Jefferies?

- What's a couple of recent JefCo deals that you can talk about?

- What's going on in energy that you can talk about?

Industry level questions:

- What are the different verticals in energy?

- Name 2-3 companies in each vertical

- How do you value an upstream company?

- Walk me through a NAV?

- Where would you invest in onshore lower 48?

I would also be ready with technicals around the financial ratios, accounting, etc.
