IB lateral
Hey everyone,
Could really use some advice.
Starting as an analyst in markets very soon and considering the potential switch to IBD. I find the work more interesting and think the private markets roles are more aligned to the work I want to be doing.
Has anyone had experience with this or know anyone that has? Open to any suggestions
IB isn't private markets - get what you're trying to say versus trading securities, but be clear on what you're saying you want to do as bankers will question how serious you are if you don't have the right terminology
Markets to IBD is generally an achievable lateral when done internally, most BBs (ex GS) will let you do that type of switch at 1 year or 18 months. You'd have to network to get into processes and be ready for technical interviews. Huge caveat here is that no one is hiring right now in IB, most IB divisions are doing layoffs... so unless the markets turn around in the next year you may not have many spots to lateral into.
