IB SA vs. PMG for summer
Hey guys, could really use some advice.
If given the opportunity of both, should I take an IB SA position or an internship at a respectable Asset Management firm with a PMG team who manages 10-15 billion (not NY, but still a major city)?
I ultimately want to work in PMG, and would love to work with the mentioned team after graduation. However, i hear it's very tough to jump into PMG right out of undergrad and i'm thinking that it might be more probable to get a FT offer after IB versus PMG.
So, should I try to break into PMG through an IB route or just try to impress the shit out of the PMG team and hope for the best?
If you ultimately want to work in PMG, it makes more sense to go with that opp of course. Is the internship through a structured program or is it more informal? Be sure to get some more clarity on the program though (is there a possibility of a FT offer?). If it's the latter, use your own judgment (identify the needs of the group, if there are a lot of junior guys on the team already, things like that).
It would be more informal, but i'm not sure how i would find out more info on the group. I have an interview coming up with an MD there, and I don't think that'd be a question I should ask.
Thought you had offers there already - that changes a few things. Get the offer first, and don't be afraid to ask about your role (along with their needs) in the interview. You need transparency in these situations.
any other opinions? or if there is a possibility of a FT offer from PMG, should I definitely jump on it?
If you have on interest in IB and want to do PMG.. take the PMG internship..
its just as hard to get a PMG job out of undergrad as it is an IB job, not any harder
