IB Weekends and Partying

I'm a first year analyst that's been trying to cope with slaving away and constantly stressing life as an analyst. The weekends where I obviously dont have to work (which has been a good amount thus far) I have been coping by just going in to an extreme level. Buying tables and drinking till 8 am, going to techno clubs sometimes till 10am then waking up at 5pm on a Sunday.

I end up rolling into work so dead every Monday for the most part but its the only way ive been really coping. I clearly have no time during the week for myself and then on the weekends i just rage.

Am stupid for doing this...it definitely affects my mood on Monday-Tuesday but i never do this if I know i have a big week at work. Anyone else do this or am i just losing my mind.

I feel this. My advice would be to still go out and have fun, but maybe not so intensely or frequently. Limit the techno clubs till 10am to maybe once every three weeks or something, that way you also have something to look forward to. Still go out on the weekends, but just go to bars or something man. Lastly, I like to keep monday-thursday very healthy/clean by working out and eating better that way I can justify shitty habits on the weekends - definitely helps with your mental well-being.

This is actually how I ended coping during my time in IB (although not as extreme). I came to realize quite soon that people I worked in had different ways of coping with the role ranging from innocuous to quite dangerous.

I basically had a routine down for going out Friday and Saturday Night with Sunday as the recovery day. I would probably modify that schedule a bit to recover on Sunday and see if you can switch up the weekend outings from time to time (like check out a movie or go to a social outing depending on the city you live in).

Perfect way to cope and spend time. As long as you aren't abusing hard core drugs and alcohol do ahead and live it up.

I can assure you, this is normal. Enjoy both the energy, and the socially acceptable period in your life where you can do it. It's cool to do it in your 20s and even early 30s. You can't do that (often) in your 40s without looking like a goober. Chances are, by then you'll have a wife and/or kid - which will eat away at your waning free time.

Party away. Don't let it affect your overall health or job performance and it's fine.
