IBD vs AM exit opps

I was wondering what the difference in exit opps was for IBD and AM? Particularly, what is the point of going into IB straight out of university, when AM is also an option in which a work/life balance can be maintained.

Does IB help your chances more of getting into HF or PE, even if AM is on the buy-side already?

In all, I’m just looking for some help regarding either field as IB seems less and less enticing, when AM can provide similar compensation but a less tiresome work week.

That's a very good point.

What I have noticed is that it really doesn't matter. If you are a damn good Investment Banker or Asset Manager, you will be earning huge amounts of money regardless.

WSO has a huge bias towards IBD which most people probably cannot explain themselves.

If you are deciding between the two areas, I would really try to look at what you would do on a day to day basis on the job, and just go with what is more interesting. Ignore what people think. Remember, this is the finance industry, as long as you are in a revenue-generating role, the sky is the limit.
