Ignore Recruiter or Politely Decline or Accept Phonecall?

I am doing an internship at a PE shop and then doing an internship at a IB shop in the summer. I received a email from a recruiter to discuss my background for a "finance" opportunity. The agency seems focused on recruiting for back-office jobs so I don't know why they are reaching out to me given that my LinkedIn clearly implies I'm headed towards capital markets.

Do you reply to the email and politely decline a discussion? Or would you agree to a phone call and go with the flow?

Depends on the recruiter and how they approach it.

I generally am happy to take a call and make the connection. That being said I am very clear from the start (I.e. not looking for an opportunity, would only want to look at these types of roles, etc) so that I don’t waste anyone’s time. And finally, be careful for people who are fishing for information (comp, performance of firm, etc), there are recruiters out there that try to collect information this way.

are you even asking dude? talk to the recruiter and be nice. tell them you have another opportunity but would like to stay in touch and connect them with a good candidate if you know one. you don’t need them now but you will need them later.
