Incoming B6 intern seeking perspective - LGBT

Joining b6 ib this summer from a target school but closeted and part of the LGBTQ community. I’m not out anywhere but was just wondering what peoples perspective is of the industry.

No past cap markets experience, going to be my first real internship and just scared about how i should go about this and have a fear of harassment

Non issue. I know at least two dozen people who are out in this industry. No one cares

If you're comfortable, you can be open about it (obviously don't make it weird / "confess" to anyone, but perfectly fine to talk about your significant other without swapping the genders) or if you don't want people to know, then don't say anything.

Really, that’s a bit comforting. Have heard a few horror stories about the bank I’m headed to. Do you have any advice on how to dodge questions about your s/o if/when they come up. Have also heard from others that people make casual jokes here and there making assumptions etc.

Someone recommended just pretending or not bringing it up because it could come to a point that influences staffing, bonuses, and overall culture fit + being top on the list of disposal if there need to be cuts.

Do you have any thoughts on all of this, and is it worth getting HR involved because I’ve also heard it never ends up in the victims favour, in fact is used against and spun around as incompetence for a lay off.

I know alot of this is probably extreme overthinking but just trying to prepare for everything

I think you're wayyyyy overthinking this already getting HR involved as an incoming intern. Seriously, there are plenty of gay people in banking. Even in tough culture groups, in this day and age it's really unlikely anyone is hostile to you over this or it impacts your staffing.

If you're super worried people will treat you differently, just say you don't have an SO and be vague about any personal questions. If you want to share with others, great. It's really not something to be concerned about
