InsideSherpa Misrepresentation as Work Experience - End This Trend

I don't know if anyone else is aware of this, but InsideSherpa is a platform that provides "virtual internship experiences" which take 1-4 hrs to complete for a free certificate at the end. I'm posting here to hopefully cancel (not that I particularly like cancel culture in the first place) or at least garner attention to this trend where people put the certificate as work experience on LinkedIn.

It pisses me off more than LinkedIn already does with all the self-gratifying "oh, I'm SOOOO honored by..." bs. I get that people like to stretch the truth, and I'm not out to smear anyone -- I understand that it's been difficult to get internships this summer -- but this isn't just dressing things up. It's misrepresentation and a bad move that could also reflect poorly on peers from your school. There's no way that recruiting isn't aware of this stuff and don't mark it down as bs, right? Inside Sherpa's own policy says it shouldn't be represented as work experience.

Also, it's been annoying having some overzealous freshman pop up when I search for people to network with. "Internship"... lol

it's the same people that complain about "Linkedin cringe" just virtue signalling lmao

To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.
