Insight on Investment Banks Making Co Investments

Does anyone have any insight into invesment banks that make co investment in their recap or cap raise deals?  I've come across a small number who outline the investments they've made in addition to their transactional history and it seems like an interesting model.  How can impact and opportunity for carry?  Seems like a nice hybrid model.
