Interesting Networking situation

I'm currently in an interesting situation. I'm a 2nd year student at a good target school. I have a GREAT connection with a man that I've had a good relation with since I was in 6th grade. We've done some outstanding things in this extracurricular activity I was heavily involved in both middle and high school. He has a few good connections for IB in the satellite city I live in and a ton more in NYC. This man is willing to help me get an internship at a satellite location for IB/Trading. However, the deadline and maybe even the recruiting process for the main NYC banks has already passed. For this summer at least, I am, willing to shadow somebody unpaid in a satellite location (and also assist in secretarial/grunt work like getting coffee/dry cleaning if necessary) if it means getting exposed to IPO underwriting, M&A Deals, corporate finance, etc.

What would you do in this situation? Thoughts?

If you're actually willing to do what you said (unpaid, dry cleaning, etc.) then why not explore the options? If you're trying to get into a BB right now it's probably far too late in the game. If you aren't able to shadow someone at least ask your connect to introduce you to people at the firm so you can establish a relationship with them prior to recruiting season in your junior year. Meeting more people now is a good way to set yourself up for a junior SA gig.
