I'm currently interviewing for a support position within the IBD at a BB. Normally, I'd expect the position to be in ops, but it's actually nestled in IBD. The short of it is that I'll be helping gather and compile data for pitchbooks as the requests come in from bankers.
While it's in IBD, this is clearly a BO position that involves a lot of Bloomberg/CapIQ/DealLogic work. Would it be possible to network into FO due to my proximity and constant dialogue with bankers? Will my skillset be of any use for FO interviews? My dream position is in media/film/music/entertainment M&A.
Internal networking is hard, and requires finesse. You don't want to go over the top with your networking, and leave your current division feeling like you're disinterested and only joined with the intention of switching divisions.
That said, I'm sure it's possible. Others here probably have good advice for how to do it.
