Internship at a BB HR dept?

Just make sure your bosses like you, and you have an opportunity to talk to higher level superiors. If you can get a MD to like you, you can almost certainly lateral into a front office job next year.

if you're a soph, try for pwm instead. you'll be able to leverage that easier. no front office execs like hr ppl.

if you can get PMW at a BB take it, but I definitely think its best to work at a BB and try to lateral, than to work at a smaller place even if the job is slightly more prestigious/more learning.

I dont even like hr myself... the problem is this is ONLY for HR, through my school's ibank club (1st time we've ever been recruited), and yeah, we're starting at the bottom here...

Well so far my only chance as an analyst would be doing "16 hours of grunt work" for a boutique.

its not that hard to transition from back to front office when you do an internship its much more difficult to transition when one works full time at a backoffice

there are plenty of people ive seen who make the jump from a backoffice internship to an internship/ FT offer

of course if you get banking, even as the xerox bitch, do it........but getting a HR internship at a BB wont be that bad, given the fact that if they like you, the HR folks can really hook you up for next summer, at the very least get you interviews in the same firm for IBD

Exactly, a lot of people on this board hear a bunch of people say "its hard/impossible to go from back office to front office" and then assume it applies to internships, I have no idea why. I hate it even more when they say " I don't know anyone who has done it," which shows they are obviously talking out of their ass because if they go to a good business school and are junior or higher they would've seen atleast a half dozen people do it. I-bankers aren't stupid, they know interning at a boutique sophomore year amounts to doing bullshit photocopying. What they care about is that you are smart, willing to work hard, etc. It's MUCH easier for them to know this if you have worked for the company and have your superiors give you a good recommendation. Furthermore, in HR you will probably have a lot of contact with front office people (not sure exactly what you'd be doing, but almost everything would involve speaking with them I assume)

On a side note I don't know why everyoen says its "impossible" to transfer from back office to front office even when you are an analyst, its hard yes, but plenty of people do it. You probably won't get put in that prestigious of a group, but if you work hard and meet the right people its more than possible.
