Interviewing w/out Networking at EB

Recently received 1st round at EB. Have not talked to a singular member of the group. Worried how to respond to “who have you talked to” question. Assuming I “pass” the interview, how do you escape not having talked to anyone? Any tips on how to answer “why XYZ “w/out any name drops would be helpful too.

We're not really an EB but glad to hear you think of us as one (think PJT RSSG/Kenilworth Global Financial Advisors/EVR). Looking forward to your "why us?" answer.

- Sincerely, Interviewer

how tf are y'all getting first rounds w o networking 😭

Ik networking is important and all but sometimes shit just works out. Every firm I’m interviewing with rn I didn’t network at all, all the ones I did? Haven’t heard back

I work at an EB and am very involved with our SA recruiting every year. Obviously can't speak for all banks but this would be just so laughable at my bank and our direct peers at least.

We get hundreds of candidates from top schools with 3.8+ GPA submitting resumes every year for so few spots almost all of whom do coffee chats...why would we ever interview someone with even a top resume with no chats when we don't know what they're like whatsoever? Only cases where I could see this in is if the candidate/their parents knew a senior banker really well or had a top .01% resume where you'd be a fool not to interview them.

Thx so much for your response. Got interview from applying online- my "referral" was attending a banking trek where I visited the company (haven't kept in contact with the group).

Don't have .01% resume nor parent connections. Considering that I did get the 1st round interview, could you provide advice re: my question? No point in providing this response without providing a value-add.
