Intro call with MD in healthcare IB- How do I impress ?

Hey guys, so as the title says, I managed to get an intro call with a healthcare IB MD. I've spoken to a couple of associates and analysts at other firms already but I feel as though the calls usually don't go anywhere. How do I impress this MD and leave a good impression ? I have absolutely no prior IB experience and am a recent graduate from a non-target school. I've been taking the initiative of learning basic modeling on my own. Does anyone have any tips to leave a good impression with this guy ?

Thanks in Advance!

Any planned "impressive question" is going to sound very planned and fake to the MD. Rather than trying to ask the basic "HUR DUR WHAT R UR THOUGHTZ ON GENERIC PHARMA INDUSTRY?!" type questions, I'd go into the call trying to make a genuine connection with the guy.

A good place to start would be to ask him about his background and experience. Most dudes (including yours truly) love self-fellating about personal experience on these calls, and the ones that do not will be incredibly easy to connect with on a personal level.

Unless you're grand theft autismo, I'd presume you can carry on a conversation thereafter. No MD is going to really remember details of these calls (or will care to), but he'll remember how he felt after hanging up. Send a super short thank you note afterwards via email, and maybe make a small ask if you think it's appropriate at the current stage.

I would avoid falling into the trap of "tell me about the $xMM acquisition of XYZ" because a) you're not going to understand what he's talking about, and b) you can read it off the press release.

Good luck, brotha.
