I think would really largely depend on banks and your background (e.g., recent grad, lateral hire). Couple month in, I’m on multiple deals and one of them is very active with myself and another AN2. Initially, I shadowed him, but more task has been distributed to me and we now have each responsibilities in the process.
Appreciate the response and input. So far I’ve been doing my best to shadow as well. I’m two months in and fresh out of school. Im on multiple deals as well and getting a lot of experience on those deals but for the major sell side one, not much other than shadowing.
I’m certainly not modeling or anything, but are you doing things like formatting spread sheets, sending calendar invites, or making slides? Don’t know of any first years who aren’t doing a bunch of stupid admin work. Would think that the older analyst would at least be looking to farm out some super easy busy work
Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing, bunch of slides, relative comps, and some LBO
Quite common especially if it's a busy deal - A2 can do the modeling, A1 can do admin work and watch A2. You'll probably run all of your own stuff by 6 months.
Pretty much how it’s going, I just gotta make sure I stay on top of things myself in terms of understanding the mats
It's hard bringing a new person in. A lot of times it's faster to just do the work as the experienced Analyst vs. giving it to the new person. May just be the case that the work on that deal is too pressing and requires too much experience / deal knowledge to hand it off easily.
