Investment Banking Full Time
Hey guys from WSO, first of all thank you for reading my post! And I really need some advices here. So l'm a senior at The University of Texas at Austin and I interned at an asset allocation fund company as an investment analyst this summer, I'm even not sure will this internship help me with ib tho... But the question is since I cannot apply for anymore summer 2025 internships so should I go straight to full time hiring process in ib or what else should I do? Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thank you!
If you want to get into IB, then yes you would have to lateral. Here are your potential paths below.
1. Get an MBA at a reputable brand. Recruit for IB summer associate roles.
2. Recruit full-time for IB over the course of the next 6 months. You missed the big wave of “post-summer analyst recruiting” so now you’ll have to be monitoring every IB firms job postings and hope something pops up in your favor. I know Truist Chicago and Piper Sandler Houston are starting their processes now.
3. Break into consulting or accounting and lateral to IB a year or so
Hi thank you so much for your advice, when you are saying accounting, is there any specific jobs you are referring to? Like big 4 advisory? Because I think audit is definitely not going to help
Yeah big 4 was what I was referring to - honestly any job that would compliment IB would be good
Would acquisitions analyst for small real estate firm help me lateral to IB?
Hard to say, would definitely it helps more than nothing. You just have to hope your networking efforts land you an interview and you've got to kill it from there.
How critical is being in a Big 4/Consulting role for IB. Asking because I also missed SA wave and will likely be in an AM role - is lateraling still possible?
Lateralling is definitely possible. Build your relationships and tell your story cohesively. They will never accept you if you say you missed the SA wave, but rather say you had an interest in xyz job for xyz reason.
