Investment Banking Summer CV
Mainly writing this post as I am quite confused about what I should add to my CV. For some bg: UG at a UK target, studying Econ/Fin/Management. So the current CV that I have was heavily tailored towards spring weeks ( for non-UK people on the platform.. Spring weeks are 2-3 day insight programs where we get to go and explore the firm and, if we perform well, can convert that into a summer) and I did have some success and landed a few springs. Unfortunately, none of them convert so I am in a position where I have to apply for summers.
My CV right now doesn't have that many relevant experiences but rather shows a wide range of experiences because I wanted to stand out in my spring application. However, I heard from current SAs at my uni that for summers firms expect your CV to have a lot more relevant experiences. Is this true? I did work really hard to get into a bunch of investment clubs and do have 3-4 leadership positions as of now, along with a decent non-finance internship.
I have about 3-4 months now to work on my CV and hopefully try and get a IBD summer internship. So right now apart from maybe a finance internship this summer to add to my CV is there anything else that I need to do to make my CV stand out. If anyone has any advice, it would be really appreciated. Thank you
Unrelated (I've never been to UK) but how exactly is performance of clueless kids (in a spring week) within 3–10 working days assessed to decide who gets a summer interview
From my experience, the spring weeks just have a guaranteed assessment centre for each participant on the last day. The rest of the programme is just an insight into the firm and networking events.
The same way a 2 hour discussion with a clueless kid gets them an offer for a summer internship???
Depends on the firm doing the spring. Some firms like BOFA, Lazard etc convert their springs to a summer internship
u said it urself, get a summer internship
...
the closer the better, tier list would look smt like ib > pe > hf/am/pwm > search fund/startup > accounting/audit/etc
Did you intern at barclays corporate banking by any chance?? Pls pm me
no? lol
check out life and levfin's site. they do a good job catering to students and those trying to transition into IB.
Main thing i would ask you is why you actually want to break into it.
