If you don't have a finance background (college degree or other experience) then yes it is helpful. Otherwise I personally don't see the value in it vs putting that time towards excelling at the job. Of course others will have their opinion (probably CFA holders, which I am not), but of the people I work with (in ER) there is probably a 50/50 mix of CFA holders/L2-3 candidates and non-CFA holders.
Can you recommend books to get started with ER?
-Thanks
