Is ghosting normal?
Saw the post where someone was ghosted after 7 rounds of interviews at Morgan Stanley so I was just wondering if it’s normal for banks to ghost? Especially at the BB and EB level or if there’s a difference in ghosting for SA/FT or lateraling.
Unfortunately normal, extremely unprofessional. If someone goes through 7 rounds of interviews (assuming that includes a super day) then gets ghosted, that speaks less about the quality of the candidate and more about the lack of integrity of the group that is hiring.
Unfortunately, It is often HR that is at fault here. I am not allowed to tell candidates that we are not going to extend an offer because of "liability", despite the fact that I really want too, explain why. The rejection just goes into the HR blackbox, and well we all know how that goes. I often say if you really liked a group stay in touch, chances are there may be more opportunities down the road.
Excellent point. In my career thus far I've found that HR has hurt far more helped recruit quality talent, usually by slow-rolling a candidate.
I could not agree more and it sucks that this happens. Granted if my bank gave the hiring process over to VPs and below, you would probably be able to hire a lot of candidates really quickly.
Wonder why they can’t just give a formal rejection for some closure
Who know, It might literally get lost in email, HR might forget, I can imagine that its a lot for HR to contact a lot of candidates. I would just not take it to hard and keep moving forward.
