Is it okay to have a YouTube channel?
I'm going to be working full time by the end of next year hopefully and I was wondering if having a YouTube channel that profits is allowed in banking/finance. I heard that some you tubers like tech lead got fired from Facebook for having a YouTube channel, but im not sure the exact way this goes down in finance. Can anyone give any advice or insight to this? Currently I'm making about $1k a month and my channel has nothing to do with finance, politics or anything controversial.
Why not just check with compliance? They’re not going to let you go just for asking. I’m sure if they said no, then you could make a channel that’s not about banking. Seems like the best YouTubers I watch are entertaining and great at story telling so make sure you check those points.
It's an outside business activity and should be disclosed on your U4. Whether or not your bank allows it and/or decides to put restrictions on it is a different story.
Should be fine as long as disclosed on U4 and to compliance as an outside business activity. They'll want some assurance it's not related to banking, done outside of work hours, and none of the inside information you have is helpful (i.e. you're not making HC news videos if you work in HC). But if your channel is just like gaming or vlogs or something kosher you will likely be okay
