Is it possible to stall start date by 3 months?

Just received a offer at a MM (Lazard MM, RJ, Cowen), however I’m 6-7 months into my current gig and would like to take my vacation in Oct before exiting. Is it possible to ask for 3 months start? Has anyone ever done that before?

you can ask, but unlikely they say yes. Make sure to do this before accepting offer as you don't want to make it seem like you are reneging. You can be very frank and say you'd like to take some time off between jobs if possible. They will politely say that they need you now.

There is for sure more flexibility in off-cycle vs on. It seems like this isn’t an immediate start angle so I think you have a shot tbh. Realistically a month is what would likely happen if they were okay with the idea in the first place. TBH unless you are traveling a month to unwind and decompress is pretty solid. In my experience and others’, there is usually diminishing returns past 1-2 months in terms of marginal happiness/relaxation, etc. You also don’t want to get too rusty…
