Is it still take Front Office above all?

If you guys had to pick- knowing what you know now about IBD, the skill requirements and the different banking groups, which would you go for? I would like to go into Investment banking/coverage after a couple years and wonder which of the below would best help. Both roles will provide me with modelling experience.

-1 is Credit Risk (Lending) at a BB (GS/MS) but I understand this is considered 'middle office'.
-2nd is a Front office MM Corporate Banking (CIB) role.

Cheers!!!

Thanks. In your opinion, would lateralling internally to IB in the BB after a few yearsbe easier than the MM CB role to IB at a BB? (I wouldn't really want to do the IB role at the MM bank in question). I know a few people at the BB bank who have made the same move internally but have no idea how easy it is to go from a MM name CB role into IB at BB.

I would think CIB is probably a marginally easier transition to IB than Credit Risk, but I'd imagine the roles are somewhat similar as their both lending focused.

But don't take it from me, you want first-hand experience. Do a LinkedIn search for people who currently work in IB but formerly worked in Corporate Banking or Credit Risk. Send em a message and ask for a brief chat about their experience breaking into IB. Good way to get the info you're looking for and make a few connections in the industry at the same time.

In my experience, people with unique stories and/or who broke into IB through the backdoor tend to be more generous with sharing their experience and volunteering advice.

Thanks, I did try messaging some people the past few days and it seems fairly equal for both CB and Credit risk.
