Is it worth doing a placement year ?

Context : I’m a first year doing a 4 year course including a placement year on Business Management with Business Analytics at a semi-target uni near London

Wanting to go into IB (M&A) in London probably at a EB as I didn’t get that good A levels to go for a BB job.

My Uni has got really good post grad employability stats so there is little incentive to waste a year doing something prolly unrelated to IB such as audit or something else but they make placement years sound very appealing and good for employability. So is it worth doing a Placement year ? Any thought or relevant anecdotes would be appreciated Thanks

How good are the roles that are advertised for your placement year? I completed a placement year in M&A so it was great for my CV. It's also a great chance to earn some money

They tend to be less competitive than SA roles since most universities like LSE , Oxford and Cambridge don’t allow them

Therefore you have a higher likelihood of getting one and thus a good chance of converting

I’d say it’s worth it

Hey Mate, just wondering did you find any work placements related to IB sector? I am a first year at a semi target as well, UoM. My University's placement rates are also pretty good and I wanted to gain some experience before my graduation because of the recession and everything. So i was wondering whether you had any luck with finding relevant IB work placement as that would help me out a lot when i start next year. Also i would really appreciate if you could let me know how to look for IB related Work placements.

Thankyou!
