Is there anyway to do this in Excel?

Using Excel on both monitors and you're in two separate files, but you want each file to recognize each other.

Example:

You have a number on one file in left monitor and another number in another file on your right number. How do you multiply (or do anything really) the number in file X (left monitor) by number in File Y (right monitor)? Is this not possible?

To get another excel open on my 2nd monitor, I have to open Excel again and then open whatever file Im looking for, so Im assuming thats why the two files dont acknowledge each other since they are two different instances of excel.. but im wondering if there is a way

wait really? ... just link the cells.

type in your formula and reference the other worksheet... (alt+tab to jump to the other worksheet)? maybe i'm not getting your question...

edit: ohhhh. nvm i see what you're saying. sorry, can't help. excel 2013 lets you open multiple instances now though, if your bank's upgraded.

You can still do it the same way you would do it if it were to be on the same instance of excel instead of two instances except when you update the numbers it doesn't auto recalculate. You have to save the file that you changed the number on, and then recalculate numbers on the other one. Annoying. yes. But possible.

Also, when I copied just the file name over like it would be done when done in the same instance of Excel, it automatically put in the whole path of the file instead. ex. Instead of "[filename.xlsx]Sheet 1"$A$1 it's C://Desktop/filename.xlsx....

A non pretty fix is to resize the excel window across both monitors and manually resize each book to fill one monitor.

That would actually be the simplest way and would look pretty much the same. other than the tool bar at the top.
