Is lateral hiring still ongoing?
havent seen lots of openings online, and wondering if banks are hiring new peeps for entry level positions at all. side note, coming from non ibd fo position trying to lateral so probably putting me in the bucket for 1st year analyst?

There will be lateral openings in Sept/Oct as first years will inevitably leave after bonus. They're just not opening now because no one is leaving 1 month before bonus. Also with a new class joining they are plugging a lot of their need for bodies already
I'd expect few to none at most places. A lot of banks overhired for the incoming class so not much need to take laterals.
1st years who take 6+ months to learn which way is up aren't really equal/comparable to 2nd year laterals who are largely plug and play.
I know my BB will have multiple spots open, it just takes a while to get the postings up after people leave because of all the HR/internal posting bs
I didn't say there wouldn't be any, just way fewer. HR doesn't really care about analyst capabilities, just overall headcount. If 50%+ of a second year class was gone after bonus, then yes they'd probably hire a couple people but that's not often the case. No point in hiring people who will likely be gone in 1 year anyways in awful market environment where M&A is done 35-40% at every bank per Q1 figures and ECM markets are basically totally dead, and lev fin way down as well. Also, several large banks have already instituted a hiring freeze that pretty much covers all of their IB / capital markets activities so that largely takes them out of market for laterals.
