Is working in Finance/Real Estate the way to prosperity?
A quick background on my end, I am working on the acquisition side as a manager making 6-digits income at a large institutional fund in Canada. My hours are really good ~40 hours a week. Probably don't make as much as brokers but I do get the benefit of having better WLB and higher base.I always thought that my career is not bad until I had a conversation with my in-laws where they both work as doctors. Based on their info, people in my age 32~35 working as specialist doctors make between 300k ~ 450k a year, some unique ones such as heart surgeons can make 800k and dermatologist can bring home ~2M a year (equivalent to the comp of a publicly traded REIT CEO with base + stock based comp). Now I suddenly wonder wtf have I been doing with my life. Lots of lawyers, bankers and PE guys are talking about working on billion dollar deals. But unless you are a well-known MD who can bring in those deals, we are essentially getting Pennies on a dollar compare to these top tier doctors. Are we just working in the wrong industry? What can we do to improve our overall industry pay rate to be even comparable to doctor's? Share your thoughts and opinions.
if you think a doctor at 35 pulling 300k is impressive, wait until you hear what a 22 year old kid out of UW CS working remote in Canada for Amazon can pull.
Waterloo is a cheat code
if you think Waterloo is cheat code, DeGroote works miracles for certain gender class
Tf, you have to have a family office to that kind of money as a doctor
