Jefferies Culture/Comp/Best Groups with Exits (NYC)

Would like to hear a little about Jefferies' comps, and groups with the best (most collegial) culture/exits, if anyone can give some advice.

If you don’t like the search function on this site, googling “jefferies WSO” is a reliable way to get dozens of relevant posts to read through from the last 2-3 years. Fairly easy to help yourself on this one. Good luck and enjoy your summer!

Almost every group has a collegial culture at Jefferies - very easy group of people to hangout with. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t get worked a ton. Jefferies is pretty understaffed - even after the hirings over the past cycle.

Almost every group kills it at the MM level - topping MM league tables, but there’s also some groups that really punch above its weight and compete for the top level deals. For the NY based groups, Healthcare, and LevFin comes to mind and Tech is also creeping up there. M&A and industrials are also great - one thing to note is Tech and Healthcare model internally so a lot of your M&A group will be focused on industrials, C&R and others. I have seen folks exit to MFs from healthcare and LevFin (and energy but that’s not NY) but also extremely competitive to get placed into (along with M&A). There won’t be a dearth in deal flow in any group and you’ll get paid well too - above the mean BB wages but below EB for most of the groups.

The internship is truly generalist and you get to work across groups but you’ll be placed into a group at the end of the summer based on mutual rankings.

Can confirm levfin is the most difficult group to place into as they probably have the best combination of reputation / exits and culture. Healthcare actually isn't that hard despite it being without any doubt the best group in terms of dealflow / exits. The cultural reputation is very tough along with long hours means many top candidates will still end up avoiding healthcare in group in placement. HC is really only for people who absolutely know they only want to do 2 years and shoot for MF PE in on-cycle. M&A is similar in this regard however exits are definitely more middle market PE focused and lag behind healthcare but hours are just as bad if not worse. Culture will be fun and collegial across all groups, including the sweaty ones.

Undoubtedly a very strong platform with great opportunities in any group, but likely more sweaty for people on the junior levels than at other shops
