JPM Networking?

I know this has been touched upon in previous years, but wanted to know if anyone knew if JPM referrals still don't mean anything (if that was ever even really the case). I know they supposedly have a "no networking/referral" policy where its very HR driven/automated, but I find it hard to believe that a director or MD would have no pull in the process.

C Suite referral won’t mean anything unless it’s literally CEO and just saying even still it’s not happening. Some COO or CMO saying you are a good candidate means nothing because they know nothing.

I mean it’s not wrong. If you are in Investment Banking and someone in Marketing is telling you about someone being a “good” candidate for IB you’re out of your mind to think that an MD or VP is going to really listen to that. It might lead to a coffee chat call but a c-suite referral is not going to get anything more than that.

If you’re in IB and you’re taking recruiting advice from someone in marketing or legal and compliance or anything non-finance related you’re quite a dolt. I have a friend who’s father is the CMO at a BB and that kid couldn’t get into any IB group and had the personal c-suite name drop.

I wouldn’t network JPM, I tried it and got instant dinged once I made it through HireVue. Reached out to HR and they said something like “Something internal flagged your named and when that happens we have to drop your application”
