Just started my new intern, absolutely no idea what’s going on

I’m a penultimate student, did a few sell side internship. Currently in PE, and the team is closing a deal. They tagged me into the email chain, and I’ve never been more lost. I’ve never seen all the legal terms, processes, documents and had to google what they mean lol. What can I do? I don’t wanna be seen as inept.

It is normal. Acronyms and finance jargon are difficult to grasp in the beginning but you'll be familiar with them in no time.

Do not hesitate to ask questions and pull an analyst from your deal team aside for 10 minutes and tell him to brief you in on what's going on.

This is an internship and this is the perfect time for you to ask questions and to learn.
