Just talked to BB MD

So guys, through some "reaching out" to extended family members/friends/ etc., I talked to to a BB MD just right now, after some small talk (about half an hour) and some informations how to break into the industry, he gave me his PERSONAL e-mail and mobile phone number so I could text him regarding questions I have or just want to talk to someone. While this sounds great, it didn't sound like he gave would hand me out an internship before I enroll at university. Now I just want to know if it's common that even when you know someone who's a MD, you wouldn't get an internship during your junior year in HS, or if he just doesn't like me and don't want to be an asshole by just saying " I don't want you".

How about you get into uni and reach out for an internship AFTER you've learned something?

Until then, there's no harm in meeting with him and just discussing the field you're interested in.

The privilege in this post is astounding. What is even the point of this post? To brag about your MD relative?

Same question #34576800

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Not gonna respon' cuz I'm just a King Kong.

Edit: Post originally only addressed the Neanderthals.

And Baboons?

If they're good friends right now, you should definitely speak with your dad about getting in touch. Of course it all depends on how desperate you are to get in. Can you wait several months?

Honestly, right now, times are pretty tough and there may not even be anything the MD can even do. It's best to get in touch with him soon, over the phone or whatever, and do the informational interview thing. If he is quick to take your resume, awesome. Slam the technicals. If not...

Stay in touch with him for a while, see if he can give you advice on how to "break in," etc. Keep studying your technicals during this time as well. Assuming the keeping in touch every now and then thing is working out, look for open positions at the firm and ask him what you can do to best position yourself for an interview. If no positions open up, it may be best to ask if there is anything opening up in the near future.

The best relationships for networking and future job offers are over a period of several months, not one or two coffee dates. Of course this all depends on how nice the guy is, and how badly they need someone.

Just my 2c

^^ Agreed. You need to build up a relationship with the MD over a couple months. Check M&I for details on networking. Once you've established a close relationship, then make the ask. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses.

STorIB, I'm going to speak with my uncle this weekend to find out the the extent of their relationship today. Ex-military guys generally share a tighter bond and sense of camraderie so I think at worst I should at least be able to e-mail him if not talk on the phone.

I am somewhat desperate to get into banking but not so much so that I would rush a situation like this without being extremely prepared. I can definitely wait several months.

Like you guys said, it takes months to build a relationship. It wouldn't even be the worst thing in the world if I kept in touch with him, broke into a boutique or MM and let it be known that I would totally be on board with moving over to his BB after I learned the ropes for a year or so.

I am definitely very excited about this prospect so I don't wanna eff it up.
