Lateral/Exit Ops Out West?

Analyst at a MM bank in the same city where I went to college, and near where I grew up. I've  wanted to move out west (Montana, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, etc.) for as long as I could remember, and am beginning to think now is the time. My firm doesn't have an office out there so I'd need to switch jobs. Is anyone aware of any finance opportunities in that area? The only one I know of is the GS office in Salt Lake City. I'm fine staying in IB or moving to PE, HF, AM, or something similar. Just mainly looking for options that I can look into and begin to try and plan this out. Thanks in advance.

I have thought about this too.

Unlike IB, buyside opps exist wherever there are people - there are literally PE firms in Alaska and Hawaii. I am certain there are out West too and a quick google search will give you some specific names. They are obviously going to be smaller if in more rural parts like Wyoming or maybe geared towards real estate, but yes they exist!

These smaller firms will NOT use head hunters atleast in the 4 years I've been receiving emails from them, so idk maybe reaching out and networking is just the best way to do it! It's a fantasy I've always had so keep us posted if it works out hah.

I actually did some research on this earlier this week (Colorado specifically) since I've always had dreams of living out west as well. There are definitely a few Denver-based IB/PE firms that I found from a Google search and Boulder has some small VC firms. I think I saw a prior thread on WSO with someone asking the same thing and people said that some MM firms might have small offices in Denver. Like the comment above said, reaching out directly might be the best way to do it. Best of luck! I hope it works out and keep us posted.
